Storytelling in visual art

“Visual storytelling is a technique that uses visual media to convey a message or story. It can include images, symbols, colors, movement, and other elements to engage an audience and immerse them in a story. Visual storytelling can be a powerful tool for communication because it can break down barriers of language, culture, and experience. It can also tap into people's natural ability to quickly interpret visual information and stir emotions. Here are some tips for telling a story with visual art:

Elicit an emotional response: Each image should inspire a question or emotional response in the viewer.

Include a character: Provide some evidence of a character, such as small details that add depth.

Focus on before or after: Don't show the climax, but instead focus on the build-up or aftermath.

Use composition and point of view: Give the viewer something to explore.

Tell the story with lighting: Consider how lighting can help tell the story.

Balance visuals and text: Use text in the form of captions, quotes, or dialogue to provide context, reinforce messages, and guide the viewer's interpretation.”
