During my time as a student, the D.C. Public Schools system experienced a significant turnover in leadership, with several superintendents taking the helm over the years. “Floretta D. McKenzie served from July 1, 1981, until February 8, 1988, followed by Andrew E. Jenkins, who held the position from May 25, 1988, to May 15, 1991. In between these two leaders, Jenkins briefly stepped in as acting superintendent from February 9, 1988, to May 24, 1988. Franklin L. Smith then took over the role, leading the district from May 15, 1991, until November 4, 1996.” Throughout Mr. Smith's tenure, I was navigating my own educational journey as both a high school and college student.
