Visual Creativity

" Visual creativity is an important part of creativity  and plays a critical role in many fields, such as art, painting and sculpture. Visual creativity is thought to consist of the following elements:  originality, sensitivity, a special talent, as well as deeper dynamism of human personality, such as sublimation, reparative-compensating mechanisms and mentalization ." For me, visual creativity in the area of painting, collage designing, digital art, and graphic design, I use photos as a way for viewers to see how I create my artwork from using a paint brush to technology.   Please note that I have thrown away the art and clothes in the above photos.

Abstract Symbols #1 - 3

Gun violence, drugs, and fireworks are just some of the experiences that I was exposed too at such an early age. Believe it or not, everyone has fears that is part of being a human being. But, if you do not have an honest conversation about the person who approaching, then, how would you ever know anything about them? I use my formal education and training in the visual arts to provide services. Some of the colors that I choose for my abstract collages and paintings are way too dark and thus causes the message that I am trying to convey to become lost. For example, I recently have thrown away Abstract Symbols. When you examine parts of the community and the world, they become too abstract and thus thoughts, ideas and concepts become symbolic.

Finger Painting

" Finger-painting can be an excellent stress-reliever.  The sheer experience of using your fingers to create something fresh and new  can be very uplifting emotionally and psychologically." "You've got more talent in your little finger than you have in your big finger." - Unknown "One never knows what one is going to do. One starts a painting and then it becomes something quite different." - Pablo Picasso As a dedicated advocate for finger painting as a transformative form of self-expression, I have spent over three decades honing my craft and creating captivating works of art that resonate with viewers on a profound emotional level. With a background in fine arts, I bring a wealth of expertise and skill to my practice, utilizing both acrylic and finger paint to bring my visions to life on canvas and paper. Some of the finger paintings that I created between 2021 - 2023 have recently been thrown away. Some colors that I choose did not blend well after

Painting Techniques

“It doesn’t make much difference how the paint is put on as long as something has been said. Technique is just a means of arriving at a statement.” – Jackson Pollock Artists use different painting techniques such as blended brush strokes and finger painting to express their emotions. Emphasizing their own feelings in artwork is crucial for successful creation of art. Landscape. 2005. Acrylic on Canvas. Colors We Wear

In 2005, I created the above abstract painting entitled: Colors We Wear.  Colors We Wear is about the selections that we make based on personality, character, and seasons. The colors that I tend to wear are based on who I am as a person. Therefore, the colors that I selected to create this painting is the sum total of who I am. Thoughtful, loyal, dedicated, trustworthy, passionate, caring, kind, nurturing and a person who has experienced trauma. When you examine, The Colors We Wear, you will notice that the main color in this painting is red.

Flock of Feathers #1

“Hope is a thing with feathers.”  - Emily Dickinson A Flock of Feathers, an abstract painting created on canvas. I entitled this a flock of feathers because ever since I was a child, I felt as if, I was surrounded by a group of birds. Somehow, I developed a passion for watching birds and several years later, incorporating that passion into my abstract paintings.  When I was working on painting, A Flock of Feathers, I was thinking about various feathers that I have observed on birds.  Flock of Feathers #1. Dark Magic, abstract painting on canvas

“A star becomes a sun, under the pressure of darkness.”-  M. R. Noble "Some thought magic came from the mind, others the soul, or the heart, or the will."-  V.E. Schwab I created Dark Magic based on how some people use magic for their own personal agenda or some spiritual purposes. While others do not have a purpose for magic at all. What is the meaning behind dark magic? Dark magic symbolizes how some people want to have the power of humans. This creates an overwhelming sense of imbalance. Dark Magic. May 12, 2022. 14 * 18. Acrylic on Canvas. Afrika Abney Dark magic consists of abstract finger paintings created on canvas using acrylic paint.

Harmonic Rhythm #1 & Harmonic Rhythm #2

" Unity (also called harmony) is an important principle of design that  gives the artwork a sense of cohesion or coherence . It is the wholeness or completeness of a picture. Unity and harmony in art are used by artists to tie a composition together and help the composition make sense as a whole piece of art." Harmonic Rhythms are based on the coherent flow that is achieved through brushstroke, color, composition and technique. Without harmonic rhythms in art, there is no balance. I used three different colors to produce this painting, a light red, dark red and white. Those three colors combined created Harmonic Rhythms, an abstract painting created on canvas.  When I created the above paintings entitled Harmonic Rhythm #1 and Harmonic Rhythm #2, I was thinking about the colors and how I would apply paint onto the canvas. I created the above paintings using my hands.
