I first learned about various canvas art materials when I was a student at the Corcoran and Bell.
I attended Bell from 1991-1993. I graduated in 1993 and was 16 at that time. Years later, I donated the painting shown in the above photo. Additionally, I gave away the clothing articles and jewelry shown in the photo above.
"Canvas panels are rigid boards with a layer of canvas glued to them, they're a good alternative to stretched canvas. These boards are thinner than stretched canvas which makes them convenient for painting outdoors. They're also popular among painters who like to work small.
In case you're not familiar with this work surface, canvas paper is a heavyweight paper with a textured, coated surface that closely replicates the finished surface of a canvas. It typically comes in flat sheets that are bound like a drawing or bristol board pad.
Modern canvas is usually made of cotton or linen, or sometimes polyvinyl chloride (PVC), although historically it was made from hemp. It differs from other heavy cotton fabrics, such as denim, in being plain weave rather than twill weave. Canvas comes in two basic types: plain and duck."
