Afrika Abney  “In 2022, I embarked on a creative journey to produce a piece titled Autumn, which is characterized as an abstract finger painting. This artwork prominently features a vibrant palette that includes shades of yellow, orange, dark red, and brown, evoking the rich hues associated with the fall season. The color palette includes vibrant shades such as yellow and orange, which evoke feelings of warmth and energy. These hues are often associated with sunlight and autumn leaves, creating a sense of cheerfulness and vitality. The combination of these bright colors can bring a lively atmosphere to any setting, making them popular choices in design and fashion. In contrast, dark red and brown introduce a more subdued and earthy tone to the mix. Dark red, often linked to passion and intensity, can add depth and r...

Symmetric Spectrum

Symmetric Spectrum. Digital art created on canvas. August 14, 2024. Afrika Abney In the process of crafting this abstract digital painting, I engaged both of my hands to orchestrate a symmetrical and dimensional composition. This approach allowed me to explore the interplay of lines, shapes, and hues in a dynamic way. The dual-handed technique not only enhanced my creative flow but also added a unique depth to the artwork, as I could simultaneously manipulate various elements to achieve a harmonious balance. As I embarked on the journey of creating this abstract digital piece, I utilized both hands to bring forth a composition that is both symmetrical and rich in dimension. This method enabled me to experiment with the relationships between lines, forms, and colors, resulting in a vibrant visual experience. The tactile engagement of using both hands allowed for a more instinctive and fluid creation process, where spontaneity met intention in every stroke. The creation of this abs...

The exploration of social and political causes in relation to abstract painting

Quote found on the Internet “The exploration of social and political causes in relation to abstract painting reveals a complex interplay between artistic expression and the socio-political landscape of the time. Abstract painting emerged as a significant movement in the early 20th century, often reflecting the tumultuous events of its era, such as wars, revolutions, and social upheavals. Artists utilized abstraction as a means to break away from traditional representation, allowing them to convey deeper emotional and ideological messages. This form of art became a vehicle for commentary on contemporary issues, challenging viewers to engage with the underlying themes of identity, freedom, and resistance. The abstraction often served as a metaphor for the chaos and fragmentation of society, inviting interpretations that resonate with the viewer's own experiences and beliefs. Furthermore, the relationship between abstract painting and social-political causes can be seen in the way a...

The subtleties of lavender can vary, ranging from pale, almost ethereal shades to deeper, more vibrant tones, each bringing its own unique quality to the artwork. In the realm of abstract painting, the interplay of colors is crucial in establishing mood and depth. Lavender, as a color, can serve as a bridge between warmer and cooler tones, allowing for a harmonious balance within the composition. Its versatility enables artists to experiment with layering and blending techniques, resulting in a rich tapestry of visual experiences. The presence of lavender can soften the intensity of bolder c...

Who is your favorite artist?

Someone asked me who is my favorite artist? I do not play favorites. I have been influenced by many professional visual artists because some of them have taught me, while others, I have been introduced to.     For example, Baba Michael Anthony Brown, one of my former teachers from NationHouse. " A native of Washington, DC Michael is a graduate of what is now the Duke Ellington School of the Arts, and Maryland Institute College of Art. His works have been featured in major museums and galleries nationally and internationally, including Manchester, England; Port au Prince Haiti; and Bahia, Brazil."
