When I created this painting, I was thinking about how I feel about the world. I think that
the world is becoming more and more chaotic and unpleasant to live and breathe. Sometimes,
you feel isolated and lost. Search for a place of solitude and peace. -- SOLD to ESTHER PRODUCTIONS, INC ON JUNE 23, 2023

Compassionate Harmony Palette

Compassionate Harmony Palette. Digital art created on canvas. September 20, 2024. Afrika Abney “The colors hot pink, pink, red, and orange embody essential qualities of compassion and harmony. Each hue carries its own emotional resonance, contributing to a palette that evokes feelings of warmth and understanding. Shades of pink, often associated with compassion, fosters a sense of nurturing and care, while red symbolizes passion and energy, igniting a fervent connection among individuals. Orange, a blend of the two, radiates enthusiasm and creativity, further enhancing the atmosphere of unity and support.”

Shaping Identity and Artistic Journey

Between the years 1989 and 1996, I experienced my formative teenage years, a period that significantly shaped my identity and artistic journey. In sharing this brief overview of my background, I aim to provide insight into my development as a professional visual artist and art consultant. This information serves to inform non-visual artists and those unfamiliar with my work about my artistic evolution and the experiences that have influenced my creative practice. Values. 1992. Mix Media Collage. Donated many years ago.Afrika Abney (In 1992, Ms. Abney was a high school student) It is essential to recognize that the stories surrounding my abstract digital paintings extend beyond mere descriptions of the artwork itself. Each piece is imbued with layers of meaning and emotion, reflecting my personal experiences and professional experiences, and the broader cultural context in which I create. By delving into these narratives, I hope to convey the depth and complexity of my artistic vi...

Tapestry of Creativity

Quote found on the Internet  This evening, as I find myself enveloped in the comforting embrace of my creative space, my mind drifts toward the vivid array of colors that I long to incorporate into my digital artwork. I take a moment to reflect on the collection of shades I have gathered, particularly drawn to the gentle tones that evoke a sense of calm and serenity. The soothing sounds of nature fill the air around me, and I gaze at the overcast sky, which seems to mirror the soft hues I wish to explore. With inspiration flowing from the world outside and the quotes that resonate with my artistic vision, I feel a surge of excitement as I prepare to unleash my digital brush upon the canvas, ready to manifest a delicate and harmonious palette. Reflecting on my journey, I recall my high school years from 1991 to 1993, a time that shaped my identity and aspirations. Those memories, while distant, serve as a foundation for my current endeavors. I consciously choose to leave the ...

Canvas of Experiences

Canvas of Experiences. Digital art created on canvas. October 26, 2024. Afrika Abney  I am a dedicated and passionate professional. In the 1990s up until 1996, I was a teenager. I chose brown ochre to represent the color of my skin. White and black to represent the racism and discrimination that I began to experience in the 1990s and continued beyond the 1990s. There is darkness within the experiences of racism and discrimination. However, the contrasting colors represent the persistence of overcoming the hardships of experiencing racism and discrimination. Selected 1992 - 1993 Experiences: Congressional Art Competition. 1992 - 1993 ART CURATOR. New Harlem Gallery, New York City. 1992 - 1993. Genuine Expressions

Genuine Expressions. Digital art created on canvas. September 4, 2024. Afrika Abney “Every genuine work of art has as much reason for being as the earth and the sun.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson “Ralph Waldo Emerson posits that every authentic piece of art possesses an intrinsic justification for its existence, comparable to the fundamental reasons for the existence of the earth and the sun. This assertion emphasizes the profound significance that art holds in the human experience, suggesting that it is not merely a product of creativity but rather an essential element of our world. Just as the earth and the sun are vital to life, so too is art a crucial component that enriches our understanding and appreciation of existence.”

Process of Reflection

As I contemplate my journey as an artist, I realize that there have been countless moments when I chose to discard my creations. This decision often stemmed from a deep-seated understanding that the materials I used, the techniques I employed, and the overall quality of the work did not meet the standards I set for myself.  Throughout my artistic development, I have encountered numerous instances where I felt compelled to part ways with my own artwork. The reasons behind these choices were multifaceted, often rooted in the realization that the materials I selected, the methods I applied, and the final execution of the piece was due to the color choices.   In looking back at my artistic path, I can identify a significant number of artworks that I ultimately decided to discard. Each discarded piece served as a catalyst for my evolution, encouraging me to pursue a higher level of craftsmanship and to remain committed to producing work that truly resonates with my arti...

Luminous Muse

Luminous Muse. Digital art created on canvas. August 29, 2024. Afrika Abney “The realms of inspiration and creativity are intricately woven into the fabric of abstract painting, where the artist's imagination takes center stage. This genre transcends traditional representation, allowing for a unique expression of emotions, thoughts, and experiences through color, form, and texture. Each brushstroke becomes a conduit for the artist's inner world, inviting viewers to engage with the artwork on a personal level. The absence of recognizable subjects encourages a deeper exploration of the viewer's own feelings and interpretations, making the experience of abstract painting both subjective and profound. In the context of abstract painting, inspiration serves as the catalyst for creativity, igniting a process that is both spontaneous and deliberate. The interplay of colors and shapes can evoke a range of emotions, prompting viewers to reflect on their own perceptions and connectio...
