Choice of art materials

Photos from Internet

"The medium that an artist chooses to work with contributes to both the style of the art and its meaning. It can also enhance the texture. Medium is not a neutral choice in artwork but rather a highly complex and codified one. To learn about art, it is important to understand how mediums are used and why."

When selecting materials to produce my new collages and paintings, I generally think about what I am creating before hand.
For example, research suggests that smaller pieces sell faster than larger pieces.

I prefer creating my new collages and paintings using 5 * 7 canvas panels, and 8 * 10 canvas, 9 * 12 canvas.

I chose brown ochre to represent the color of my skin. White and black to represent the racism and discrimination that I began to experience in the 1990s and continued beyond the 1990s. Awareness Unleashed

In order for someone to become aware of something they have to be introduced to the subject at hand.  “Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States, served from 1981 to 1989 and is often remembered for his charismatic leadership and significant impact on American politics. Before his presidency, Reagan was a prominent actor in Hollywood, which helped him develop a strong public persona. Autumn's Optimism

“The spirit of autumn brings with it a sense of optimism and allows the optimism of autumn to guide us toward a brighter future. This is portrayed through the color orange which evokes a sense of warmth and comfort. This rich hue, often associated with the changing landscape, symbolizes the transition from the warmth of summer to the cooler days of fall.  Beyond its visual appeal, the color orange in autumn is often linked to feelings of optimism and renewal. As the leaves change and fall, they remind us of the cyclical nature of life and the beauty that can be found in transitions. This vibrant color encourages a sense of hope and positivity, suggesting that even as one season ends, another is on the horizon, filled with its own opportunities and experiences.”

Creative Resilience

Creative Resilience.Digital art created on canvas. September 20, 2024. Afrika Abney “Resilience is an essential theme within the realm of abstract painting, and my journey through the intricacies of creative expression began during my academic years. Throughout this time, I encountered numerous challenges that tested my ability to adapt and innovate. These experiences have not only shaped my artistic vision but have also empowered me to transform obstacles into opportunities for growth. By embracing both traditional and unconventional materials, I have been able to cultivate a diverse body of work that reflects my commitment to overcoming adversity. The inquiries posed by my professors, particularly regarding the potential limitations of available materials, have significantly influenced my artistic process. Rather than viewing a lack of resources as a setback, I have learned to approach it as a chance to explore alternative avenues of creativity. This mindset has allowed me to utiliz
