“Throughout my journey as a professional visual artist and art consultant, I have encountered a variety of societal challenges that have significantly impacted my career. These issues have manifested in different forms, including feelings of isolation, as well as instances of racism and discrimination. Such experiences have not only shaped my personal perspective but have also influenced the way I engage with the art community and the broader society.

The isolation I have faced in my professional life often stems from various individuals excluding me because I am an African - American. Additionally, the prevalence of racism and discrimination has further complicated my experiences as I continue to voice my statements against racism and discrimination. Navigating these societal issues has compelled me to reflect on the importance of inclusivity and equity within the art world.”

Through my abstract digital painting, I have chosen to express this dichotomy by focusing solely on these two colors. James A. Porter

"James Amos Porter was the first African American art historian. Born on December 22, 1905 in Baltimore, Maryland, he was the son of Lydia and John Porter, a prominent minister in the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church. Porter graduated cum laude in 1927 with a Bachelor of Science in art from Howard University. After graduating, he became an instructor of drawing and painting at Howard, teaching for 40 years, during which he was described as a gifted and influential teacher. Porter continued his education at the Art Student League in New York City, New York under Dimitri Romanovsky. Later, he met research librarian Dorothy Burnett in Harlem and married her on December 27, 1929. They had one daughter, Constance Porter.
