Responsible Artistry

Responsible Artistry. Digital art created on canvas. September 19,2024. Afrika Abney

Responsible Artistry is manifested through the use of digital applications, employing a palette that includes vibrant hues such as red, dark green, blue, and orange. These colors are not merely aesthetic choices; they serve to symbolize the various responsibilities that come with being a professional visual artist. The abstraction of these colors allows for a deeper exploration of the themes of accountability and ethical considerations inherent in the artistic profession.

“A professional visual artist is tasked with a variety of duties and responsibilities that are essential to the creation of compelling artwork. One of the primary responsibilities involves employing various techniques that enhance the visual impact of their creations. This may include mastering different styles, such as realism, abstraction, or mixed media, and utilizing tools and methods that best express their artistic vision. The artist must continually refine their skills to adapt to new trends and technologies in the art world, ensuring that their work remains relevant and engaging.

In addition to technical proficiency, a professional visual artist is expected to generate innovative and creative ideas that push the boundaries of traditional art forms. This involves a deep understanding of concepts, themes, and narratives that resonate with audiences. The artist must engage in a process of exploration and experimentation, often drawing inspiration from various sources, including personal and professional experiences, cultural influences, and contemporary issues. This creative ideation is crucial for developing unique pieces that not only reflect the artist's individual style but also provoke thought and evoke emotions in viewers.

The selection of materials is another critical aspect of a visual artist's responsibilities. Artists must carefully choose the mediums and supplies that will best serve their artistic intentions, whether it be paint, clay, digital tools, or found objects. This decision-making process is influenced by factors such as the desired aesthetic, durability, and the message they wish to convey through their work. By thoughtfully curating their materials, artists can enhance the overall quality and impact of their art, ensuring that each piece is a true reflection of their vision.”

Soft Yellows

Soft Yellows. Digital art created on canvas. September 20, 2024. Afrika Abney The shades of soft yellows conveys a sense of optimism. “The concept of optimism within the sphere of abstract art serves as a powerful lens through which to explore the emotional and psychological dimensions of artistic expression. Abstract art, characterized by its departure from representational forms, allows artists to convey feelings and ideas that transcend the limitations of traditional imagery. This genre often embraces vibrant colors, dynamic shapes, and fluid compositions, all of which can evoke a sense of hope and positivity. The absence of concrete subjects invites viewers to engage with the artwork on a personal level, fostering an optimistic interpretation that resonates with their own experiences and aspirations. Furthermore, the role of optimism in abstract art extends beyond individual interpretation; it can also reflect broader societal themes and aspirations. In times of uncertainty or tur...

Creative Chronicles

Creative Chronicles. Digital art created on canvas. October 26, 2024. Afrika Abney  At the time when digital art began in the 1980s, I was 4 - 13 and a student at NationHouse. I did not start creating digital art until 2009. With over a decade of experience in digital art, I have honed my skills in various techniques and styles. I specialize in creating captivating and visually stunning digital artworks that evoke emotion and tell a story. Upon waking up from my restful sleep and unaware of the discussions taking place, I began to implement my routine and examine my digital art.  Creative Chronicles using vibrant colors and varied brush techniques.   “Personal storytelling plays a crucial role in my artistic journey, particularly in conveying insights about my digital abstract paintings, abstract artworks, and collages. Recently, I have delved into the significance of color symbolism within my digital creations, which has led me to recognize that color serves as a vital c...

Paul Klee's Quotes

Quote found on the Internet  “ Paul Klee was a prominent artist known for his unique contributions to the world of modern art. Klee's artistic journey was influenced by various movements, including Surrealism and Cubism, which he skillfully integrated into his own style. His ability to convey complex emotions and ideas through simple forms and playful imagery has made his art both accessible and profound, resonating with audiences across generations.” “The duality of perception is encapsulated in the idea that one eye is attuned to visual stimuli while the other is sensitive to tactile sensations. This concept, attributed to the artist Paul Klee, suggests a profound interplay between sight and touch, highlighting how our understanding of the world is shaped by both visual observation and physical experience. The metaphorical representation of the eyes serves to illustrate the complexity of human perception, where seeing and feeling are not merely separate functions but rathe...

Unity in Action

Unity in Action. Digital art created on canvas. August 28, 2024. Afrika Abney “On August 28, 1963, a landmark event took place in the annals of civil rights history in the United States. This day represented the climax of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, which saw an impressive turnout of over 250,000 people convening at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. This gathering was a crucial turning point in the civil rights movement, uniting a wide array of activists who were advocating for racial equality, economic opportunity, and transformative social change. Cerulean Canvas

“The color blue in abstract paintings often embodies a range of qualities that evoke various emotional and psychological responses. It is frequently associated with tranquility and calmness, creating a serene atmosphere that invites viewers to reflect and contemplate. The use of blue can also suggest depth and infinity, reminiscent of vast skies and deep oceans, which can lead to a sense of exploration and introspection. Artists may employ different shades of blue to convey distinct moods, from the soft pastels that evoke a gentle, soothing feeling to the bold, vibrant hues that can energize and inspire. In the realm of abstract art, blue serves as a powerful tool for expression, allowing artists to communicate complex ideas and emotions without the constraints of representational forms. The versatility of blue enables it to interact harmoniously with other colors, enhancing the overall composition and creating dynamic contrasts. For instance, when paired with warm colors like or...

Tranquil Gray

“Throughout my years as a student, spanning from 1978 to 1997, I cultivated a variety of character traits that have significantly shaped my personality. Among these traits, the color light gray serves as a poignant representation. This particular shade embodies a sense of tranquility and simplicity, reflecting a hopeful outlook that has accompanied me throughout my educational journey. The period of my academic life was not just about acquiring knowledge; it was also a transformative experience that fostered the development of my character. Light gray, as a neutral hue, symbolizes the calmness I sought during challenging times and the straightforwardness. This color resonates with the essence of my experiences, encapsulating the balance I strived for in both my studies and personal growth. As I reflect on my time when I was a student, the traits I developed are intricately linked to the qualities represented by light gray. This color signifies not only a serene disposition but al...

Themes in art

My recent blog posts that I posted on my branding blog are geared towards different themes in art. “A theme in art is a broad idea or message that an artist conveys through their work, or that an audience receives when viewing it. Themes are often universal ideas that explore fundamental topics such as life, society, or human nature. They are usually implied rather than explicitly stated.” Human nature is symbolized by the color red in a striking painting by me. The vibrant red represents various aspects of life and emotions, delving into the depths of humanity. In contrast, the painting "Life" intertwines red, green, and blue to convey meanings of passion, birth, and growth. The dynamic visual experience captures the essence of passion, growth, and renewal in the human experience. Additionally, the colors green and blue symbolize renewal, growth, and new beginnings, encouraging viewers to reflect on the interconnectedness of life and embrace change. Furthermore, the colors y...
