Inflation

Inflation began in 1981 and I was 5. When I was a student at NationHouse, I was asked what materials I will use to create my visual art work. My response was I will sticks, twigs and so forth. However, when I conducted my visual arts workshop, I did not use nature materials.

When I created my abstract paintings on canvas, I use a variety of materials. Saying someone is cheap without knowing why they are trying to save money is a poor assumption.

Inflation. 14 * 18.August 1, 2022. Acrylic on Canvas. Afrika Abney

Inflation is based on the personal and professional experiences that Ms. Afrika Abney encountered as a black female from America and living in America.

Swirls and shades of purple blend into one another, creating an abstract and immersive visual experience. Hints of light blue peek through, adding a contrasting highlight to the darker hues.

The significance of compassion and harmony

“Compassion can be represented through a vibrant spectrum of colors, each hue symbolizing different aspects of this profound human emotion.I specifically chose Magenta. Magenta, a color that pulsates with a vibrant energy, embodies the multifaceted nature of compassion. Its rich hue, a blend of red's passionate intensity and blue's calming serenity, perfectly encapsulates the delicate balance inherent in compassionate action. Magenta's association with harmony and cooperation speaks to the interconnectedness that compassion fosters, suggesting a world where individuals work together, understanding and respecting each other's needs. Furthermore, its link to creativity and innovation highlights the transformative power of compassion, inspiring us to find new solutions and approaches to alleviate suffering. This vibrant color reminds us that compassion is not merely a passive emotion, but an active force that drives us to be kind, to understand, and to build a more just ...

Life in Black and White through the lens of the artist

Life in Black and White through the lens of the artist captures abstract paintings using black and white paint on paper to resemble how society, community and world divides human beings based on race and excludes them from activities. If we want racism and discrimination to end, we must stop segregating and racial inequity. I have created several paintings using only black and white colors to express how I have been impacted by racial profiling. When I mix both colors together, they make the color gray.  "Black isn't a primary, secondary, or tertiary color. In fact, black isn't on the color wheel because it isn't considered a color. It's all colors. Or rather, the absorption of all colors. Black absorbs all light in the color spectrum." "White is clean, simple, and pure. It stands in stark opposition to black, and its meanings are unequivocal. As white light contains all the colors of the spectrum, it’s an inclusive, impartial color, favoring no single ...

My Charter School Experiences

In 1992, I did not attend a charter school. I have had a wide range opportunities that took place at various schools. I have not provided any services for schools as a professional visual artist and art consultant for a while. Among them include when I served as a substitute teacher for Mundo Verde PCS in 2013, I can recall working with some of the students and staff and sharing my passion and extensive background in visual arts. Additionally, I can recall when I served as a substitute teacher for DC International School. I knew a little bit of Spanish, but as a professional visual artist, I really enjoyed sharing my love and extensive background in visual arts with the students and some of the staff members at DC International from 2016-2017. Also when I served as an art elective Summer Camp teacher for Higher Achievement in 2013, the program took place at Center City Capitol Hill Campus. Providing each of these services in the past were a great opportunity for me. However, sin...

Colors in Art

Colors in art are what makes the art piece intriguing.  Blues are cool colors representing a calming effect. While, red, yellow and orange are warm colors. Each color on the wheel depicts a different meaning. I often use orange, red, purple, brown and black in my paintings whether on canvas or digital. "Orange is associated with meanings of joy, warmth, heat, sunshine, enthusiasm, creativity, success, encouragement, change, determination, health, stimulation, happiness, fun, enjoyment, balance, sexuality, freedom, expression, and fascination. Orange is the color of joy and creativity. Orange promotes a sense of general wellness and emotional energy that should be shared, such as compassion, passion, and warmth. Orange will help a person recover from disappointments, a wounded heart, or a blow to one’s pride."  "Red represents power and courage.  The color red is an intense color that is packed with emotion ranging from passionate, intense love to anger and ...

Pink Radiance

Pink Radiance.Digital art created on canvas. August 13, 2024. Afrika Abney  "Pink Radiance," a stunning abstract digital painting that captivates the viewer with its vibrant color palette and striking simplicity. The artwork features a bold yellow circle that stands out against a soft pink background, creating a visual harmony that is both eye-catching and soothing. The yellow circle at the center of "Pink Radiance" symbolizes warmth and positivity, evoking feelings of happiness and energy. Its smooth, rounded shape contrasts beautifully with the textured pink background, which adds depth and dimension to the overall composition. The choice of colors is intentional, as the bright yellow draws the eye, while the gentle pink envelops the viewer in a sense of calm.

VisionaryWorth

VisionaryWorth. Digital art created on canvas. September 22, 2024. Afrika Abney “There exists a notable deficiency in the recognition and valuation of the contributions made by professional visual artists and art consultants. This oversight often manifests in various sectors, where the expertise and creative input of these professionals are not adequately acknowledged. The impact of their work, which encompasses not only the creation of visual art but also the strategic guidance provided by art consultants, is frequently underestimated, leading to a diminished appreciation for their roles in the broader cultural and commercial landscapes.”

Optimistic Whisper

“Optimistic Whisper" utilizes a soft pale yellow hue to effectively convey a sense of hope and positivity. This choice of color is significant, as pale yellow is often associated with warmth, light, and a gentle brightness that can uplift the spirit. The subtlety of the shade allows for a nuanced expression of optimism. The concept of optimism within the sphere of abstract art serves as a powerful lens through which to explore the emotional and psychological dimensions of artistic expression. Abstract art, characterized by its departure from representational forms, allows artists to convey feelings and ideas that transcend the limitations of traditional imagery. This genre often embraces vibrant colors, dynamic shapes, and fluid compositions, all of which can evoke a sense of hope and positivity. The absence of concrete subjects invites viewers to engage with the artwork on a personal level, fostering an optimistic interpretation that resonates with their own experiences and asp...
