“Masks can have many symbolic meanings, including representing supernatural beings, ancestors, or imagined figures. Masks have always polarized, hidden and revealed at once. Religions and cults have long understood the mask's transformative power, and in many cultures they are used in rituals of initiation.”

On March 4, 2024, I created this mix media collage on paper using acrylic paint focusing the colors tan, orange and black.

As a passionate artist with a deep appreciation for the symbolic power of masks, I strive to evoke emotion and provoke thought through my mixed media collages. My mission is to explore the intricate layers of meaning embedded in cultural artifacts like masks, and bring them to life through my artwork.

With a strong foundation in acrylic painting and a keen eye for color theory, I specialize in creating visually striking compositions that challenge traditional notions of identity and representation. I chose brown ochre to represent the color of my skin. White and black to represent the racism and discrimination that I began to experience in the 1990s and continued beyond the 1990s. There is darkness within the experiences of racism and discrimination. However, the contrasting colors represent the persistence of overcoming the hardships of experiencing racism and discrimination.
